Further comprehensive judging audits undertaken of all Top 20 shops in the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award. All aspects of a business are assessed and the judging process covers shop appearance, raw materials, storage facilities, preparation areas, equipment and utensils, staff training, staff presentation and customer service, practices and techniques, packaging, marketing activity, sustainability policies – and most importantly, the quality of the fish and chips. This judging stage determines the Top 10 shops in the UK.
Top 10 shops in the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award announced and invited to the grand final.
Representatives from the Top 10 shops in the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award embark on a study trip to Norway (September 2018), sponsored by the Norwegian Seafood Council, where they will learn about the supply of fish from Norway to the UK.

A judging panel of industry representatives assemble.
Judges represent the national Federation of Fish Friers, the National Edible Oils Distributors’ Association, AHDB Potatoes, the foodservice/catching/distribution sectors and past National Winners. The panel is chaired by Seafish.
Judges assess a variety of background evidence and receive presentations from all Top 10 finalists in the Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award.
The panel determines first, second and third placed shops by ballot.

The awards ceremony for the 2019 National Fish & Chip Awards is held in London at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in late January 2019.
